  1. 1:06:28 – I wonder whether Akin's compassion wasn't more what Tatiana called "compulsion", stemming from his dual genetic make-up as a construct; both human and Oankali. The same could be said about humans as portrayed in Adulthood Rites: GENETICALLY self-destructive and suicidal, as opposed to "deciding to change for the better". Adulthood Rites portrays humans as incapable – without a fundamental, genetic transformation – of making life-sustaining decisions.
